400'000. Besucher läutet Schlussphase der grossen Van Gogh-Ausstellung ein
Einen Monat vor dem Ende der grossen Van Gogh-Ausstellung hat das Kunstmuseum Basel heute den 400'000. Besucher begrüsst. Verschiedene Veranstaltungen sind mittlerweile ausgebucht, so die speziellen Angebote für Kinder und Schulen sowie die meisten öffentlichen Führungen. Wer die spektakuläre Van Gogh-Ausstellung 2009 nicht verpassen will, muss sich beeilen. Die weltweit erste Gesamtschau der Landschaftsbilder der holländischen Künstlerlegende dauert nur noch bis am 27. September 2009.
Eine Verlängerung der Ausstellung ist ausgeschlossen.

Vincent Aebischer
Auf ganz besondere Weise hat die Van Gogh-Ausstellung die junge Familie Aebischer aus Basel inspiriert. Auf der Suche nach einem Namen ihres werdenden Kindes sahen Corinna und Ivan Aebischer die Fahnen zur Ausstellung auf der Basler Mittleren Brücke – und entschieden sich für: Vincent. Am 28. Juli erblickte der kleine Vincent Aebischer im Basler Bethesdaspital nun das Licht der Welt. Mutter und Sohn sind wohlauf, und das Kunstmuseum Basel freut sich mit.
Der Direktor des Kunstmuseums Basel, Bernhard Mendes Bürgi, hat den jungen Eltern einen Blumenstrauss, Geschenke und zur Erinnerung eine der grünen Van Gogh-Fahnen mitgebracht, wie sie zur Zeit auf der Mittleren Brücke wehen.

Visitor numbers to the Van Gogh exhibition reach a quarter of a million
In the middle of July, the great Van Gogh exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Basel passed the quarter million mark in the number of visitors. This makes the comprehensive Van Gogh exhibition on his landscape paintings the most visited exhibition in the nearly 350 year history of the Kunstmuseum Basel.
Together, the Director of the Kunstmuseum, Bernhard Mendes Bürgi, and Hans Furer of the Board of the Friends of the Kunstmuseum, presented the 250,000th visitor with a surprise. Anita Jucker from Rapperswil-Jona, who was visiting the exhibition with her family, received a bunch of flowers and the exhibition catalogue, as well as life membership of the Friends of the Kunstmuseum Basel.

Vincent van Gogh - Grosser Kinderwettbewerb im Kunstmuseum Basel
Vom 9. Juni bis 27. September können Kinder bis 14 Jahre jede Woche einen Wochenpreis im Wert von CHF 50 gewinnen.
Beim grossen Kinderwettbewerb zeigt sich, wer durch die Ausstellung zu einem kleinen Van Gogh-Experten geworden ist.
Die Antworten auf die kniffligen Quizfragen rund um den faszinierenden Maler und seine Bilder sind auf dem Rundgang
durch die Ausstellung zu finden.
Der Wettbewerb liegt im 2. Stock des Kunstmuseums Basel direkt neben dem Eingang zur Ausstellung auf. Viel Spass!

Viktor Giacobbo in der Van Gogh-Ausstellung
Am Dienstag 23.06 besuchte der Kabarettist, Autor, Schauspieler und Moderator Viktor Giacobbo die
Van Gogh-Ausstellung. Er zeigte sich rundum begeistert und genoss den Ausstellungsbesuch sehr.

Van Gogh exhibition: Kunstmuseum Basel greets its 100,000th visitor
The big Van Gogh exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Basel, which opened on 26 April 2009, is attracting an
extraordinary number of visitors. This morning, the Kunstmuseum’s director, Bernhard Mendes Bürgi,
welcomed the 100,000th visitor to the exhibition. He presented Corinne Zellweger from Riehen, who was
visiting the exhibition together with her husband, with a bunch of flowers and the exhibition catalogue.
After her visit to the Van Gogh exhibition, Corinne Zellweger, herself an artist, expressed her enthusiasm:
‘I am fascinated by Vincent van Gogh’s intensive colours. And it is a unique opportunity for me to be able
to see so many of his fantastic works here in Basel!“
Bernhard Mendes Bürgi comments: ‘I am very pleased that, after less than five weeks, we have been able
to welcome the 100,000th visitor to the Van Gogh exhibition. The exhibition is generating a great deal of
interest both from specialists in the art world and the general public.’
The new ticketing system means that the visitor flow can be controlled very effectively: Tickets can be bought
both via the Internet and at the specially established box office in front of the Kuntmuseum. As a result, a
visit to the exhibition is a very enjoyable experience for the public at any time, despite the high level of demand.
The Kunstmuseum Basel recommends that spontanous visitors to the Van Gogh exhibition, which continues
until 27 September 2009, should preferably come during the second half of the afternoon.
Exceptionally, the Kunstmuseum Basel will be open this coming Whit Monday (1 June 2009), to give the public
an opportunity to visit the Van Gogh exhibition throughout the holiday period.

Van Ueli beer launched
A cultural event with international appeal on the scale of the current Van Gogh exhibition also stirs up enthusiasm
in Basel’s commercial sector.
The Basel brewery Fischerstube has taken its inspiration from the Van Gogh exhibition at the Basel
Kunstmuseum and brewed a unique beer: the ‘Van Ueli Beer’ with sunflowers. The manager of the brewery,
Anita Treml, is proud of her new beer and convinced that it will be popular: ‘Anyone who loves art will
also love this masterpiece.’ The product is a low-hopped special lager with a restrained sunflower flavour.

Last stage of preparations before the major van Gogh exhibition
In mid-March, the three metre high sculpture of the ‘Big Spider’ by Alexander Calder (1898 – 1976) was removed
from the inner courtyard of the Kunstmuseum Basel. The considerable weight of the iron sculpture meant that
dismantling it proved to be pretty complicated. In a spectacular action, a mobile tower crane, which was placed outside
the museum, pulled the ‘Big Spider’ more than 30 metres up to the museum roof. That’s where the ‘Big Spider’ will
stay during the van Gogh exhibition, and it will return to the museum courtyard afterwards.
